How it works
Compression is done by re-encoding your photo at a lower quality level using the browser's Canvas API. JPG and WebP formats offer the best size reduction. The tool shows the output file size instantly so you can find the best balance between quality and size. Nothing is uploaded to any server. How to verify. Also available as a free REST API for developers and AI agents (edge-processed, zero retention).

FAQ
How much can I reduce the file size?
It depends on the original. A 5 MB photo can often be reduced to under 500 KB at 70-80% quality with minimal visible difference. Use the slider and check the result.
Which format gives the smallest file size?
WebP typically produces the smallest files, followed by JPG. PNG is lossless and usually larger, so switch to JPG or WebP for compression.
Does compressing a photo change its dimensions?
Not by default. The tool compresses by lowering quality, not by shrinking the image. You can optionally resize at the same time if needed.
Is the quality loss noticeable?
At 70-80% quality, the difference is usually invisible to the naked eye. Below 50%, compression artifacts become visible. The tool shows a preview so you can judge.
Are my photos sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
