Free Photo Retouch (Smooth Skin, Brighten)

Upload a photo and the tool finds faces and refines skin tone and brightness automatically. Adjust skin smoothing, blemish reduction, under-eye brightening, teeth whitening, brightness and warmth yourself. Face shape is never changed. Add several photos to retouch them with the same settings and save them all as a ZIP.

How to use

  1. Drag and drop one or more photos, or click to choose them (up to 20).
  2. The tool finds each face and builds a mask that covers only the skin (cheeks, forehead, chin). Eyes, eyebrows, lips and nostrils are left out of the mask.
  3. With "Auto enhance" on, white balance, levels, vibrance and exposure are corrected first.
  4. Adjust Smooth skin, Reduce blemishes, Brighten under-eyes, Whiten teeth, Brightness and Warmth as much as you like.
  5. Drag the comparison slider or hold the photo to compare before and after, then save each photo or all of them as a ZIP.

⚠️ Many agencies prohibit heavy retouching on passport, visa and ID photos. For ID photos, keep the sliders close to 0 or don’t use this tool. There is no reshaping or slimming here; only skin tone and brightness are refined. Photos are processed only in this browser and never stored on a server.

How the automatic retouch works

The tool works in two stages. First comes auto enhance, applied to the whole photo: automatic white balance (gray-world method) that balances the color channels so areas that should be gray actually look gray, auto levels that stretch contrast between the darkest and brightest areas, vibrance that lifts only dull colors while leaving already vivid colors alone, and auto exposure that brings overall brightness to a middle value. Next comes face retouching. Using the 468–478 points found by Google’s MediaPipe Face Landmarker, the tool builds a "skin mask" from the area inside the face outline (forehead to chin and cheeks), minus the areas around the eyes, eyebrows, lips and nostrils. Skin smoothing and blemish reduction happen only inside this mask. Separate small masks for the under-eye area and the inside of the mouth adjust just brightness and color there. Background, hair and clothing are not affected by skin retouching.

How skin smoothing works

If you shrink a photo and then enlarge it back, fine high-frequency detail like blemishes and pores disappears and only the broad color flow of the skin (low frequency) remains. The tool uses this low-frequency image as the "target skin", then adds back 30% of the high-frequency texture (the original minus the low-frequency image) so skin texture doesn’t vanish completely. The result is blended with the original through the skin mask, whose edges are feathered, so there is no visible border. "Reduce blemishes" finds spots where the original differs strongly from the low-frequency image (moles and blemishes that are noticeably lighter or darker than their surroundings) and blends only those spots more strongly, so larger blemishes are removed first while the rest of the skin texture is touched less. This is a simplified version of the guided-filter and frequency-separation techniques used in professional retouching software, so it is not as detailed as dedicated retouching tools.

How face detection works

Google’s open-source MediaPipe Face Landmarker finds 468–478 points on each face (eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks, forehead outline and more). The tool detects up to 5 faces per photo and builds separate skin, under-eye and teeth masks for each one. The model and all calculations run in WebAssembly (CPU) inside your browser, and photos are never sent anywhere. Large photos are scaled so the longest side is 2400 px for analysis and retouching, then the result is applied at the original size when you save.

FAQ

Does it slim my face or reshape my jawline?

No. There is no reshaping or slimming. The tool only refines skin tone, texture and brightness and leaves your face outline exactly as it is. We left reshaping out on purpose to keep results natural.

Can I use it on passport or ID photos?

Passport, visa and ID photo rules (set by passport offices, embassies and similar agencies) generally prohibit heavy retouching. Edits that noticeably change skin color or facial features can get your application rejected, so for ID photos keep the strength low or don’t use this tool.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. The AI model that finds faces (Google MediaPipe) is hosted on this site, so photos are processed entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing is saved after processing.

Can I retouch several photos at once?

Yes. Add several photos and they are retouched with the same settings in one go, and you can download all the results as one ZIP file. Faces are detected separately in each photo, even if the number of faces or angles differ.

What if the retouch looks too strong or unnatural?

Lower sliders like Smooth skin and Reduce blemishes toward 0 to weaken the effect. Use the comparison slider to check before and after, and raise the settings only until the result still looks natural.
